To pick a nit: The first voice capable telecom device from apple was  
the "GeoPort Telecom Adapter" which worked any mac that had a  
GeoPort... Like the Quadra 840av

I think the Quadra 840av could even be setup as an answering machine!

So, in theory, you could invent some drivers and run asterisk on  
mklinux or netbsd on a quadra 840av and a geoport and have your self  
an antique $13.00 asterisk system!
