And how would that help on a Mac Quadra? :-)

Some very capable people have tried to come up with at least a
working ztdummy for about a year. At some point the mailing-list for
the zaptel effort had about 10 or so members and half of them had OSX
driver expertise and telephony expertise.
The quotations were obtained when this was going nowhere. The
feedback then contributed to kill the effort for good. Based on the
comments about Zaptel from people who know drivers I think it is fair
to say that you shouldn't be wasting your time trying to revive this.
It makes a lot more sense to follow a non-zaptel approach.
Voicetronix have a proper driver framework which currently hooks
directly into Asterisk, but from discussions I had with them it looks
as if they are interested to hook into Unicall, too. Likewise,
Sangoma have announced a zaptel-free driver framework and there is
some code for that which the Yate and Freeswitch guys are using.
Steve Underwood (the Unicall guy) is interested to see this progress
so he can hook it up to Unicall and if Sangoma isn't going to finish
this, he will probably take matters into his own hands. I say, the
future lies in Unicall. Unicall is cross-platform and some of the non-
zaptel driver frameworks by various vendors are also cross-platform,
so this is where we should be heading, not zaptel.
