OpenPBX is derived from the asterisk source (1.2).

Many feel that the Asterisk development team has lost it's way with
regards to priorities and direction. The most important things would
seem to be stability, security and compatibility. OpenPBX is more
focused on these goals, while asterisk seems to be rushing to add/
revamp/extend features.

I am sort of torn between these two views, but ultimately better mac
compatibility is the decider (sorry) for me.

Asterisk does build on OSX in both the 1.2.13 release and the 1.4
branch . I haven't had a chance to build OpenPBX, but look forward
to the exciting tools and add ons that might become available based
on info here.

I am pretty sure that Steve Underwood (IIR) has said that he isn't
going to work on asterisk any more. This is significant as he is the
author of both Unicall and some critical Fax additions.
