Ed,

I haven't installed linux on an intel mac via boot camp or something
similar, but I am fairly certain that it is quite possible to install
Linux onto Intel Mac hardware.

Anyhow, I have installed Trixbox, Asterisk 1.4 Beta, Bicom Systems'
PBXWare, and other Linux software in Parallels Virtual Machines on my
MacBook.) All have worked quite well, though I use them mostly for
testing purposes. Using this solution, instead of building directly
on OS X still has the inherent issues of no PCI hardware, but it's
possible that the Astribank hardware would work with a virtual
machine, and you wouldn't have to worry about non-functional music on
hold or conferencing, because you would have a real, live Linux kernel.

If you are bound and determined to install a production PBX on Mac
hardware, then this is probably the route I would take. (I would also
explore booting linux directly, of course. That way you would have
PCI support, too.) In the end, however, as much as I wish I could
recommend using Apple hardware and OS X, I still would recommend
Linux on Standard PC hardware.

Tom
