Hi Josh,

I posted the following back in May 2006, and subsequently chipped
in a token $25 donation to the Apple Unicall project. Sounds like
that project is indeed making headway. I'm excited to hear that!

Hope this helps,
Charles

ps. I have yet to update Linux or Asterisk since, it ain't broke yet:

Ultimately when I decided to set something up that would actually
work while travelling internationally, after buying the wrong Intel
modem version hoped to be a X100P "clone", I picked up a OEM Digium
X100P modem, and installed Yellow Dog Linux since this modem is not
supported under Mac OS X Asterisk and likely never will be.

That and the Asterisk TFOT got me up and running with 1.0.7 last
fall. The document was quite helpful with everything from compiling
Asterisk, kernel tweaks for the version of Linux I had, setting up
the Digium X100P card, and setting up a dial plan all covered. I
used and old Power Mac 8600 for the Asterisk server, and an iBook
G3 with x-lite softphone while travelling.

Setting up and using Asterisk even as an individual hobbyist was
quite a rewarding and eye-opening experience. I probably could have
just got an international phone card for the same $25 as much as I
called, but that would not have been as fun or educational. It was
a bit of effort, but it worked and I was happy! I got to make my
overseas calls to friends via my home phone line "for free" as long
as I had internet access.
