Hi again All,
>without having to pay for any more rack space or power than I already do.
Bingo!
The reason my antiquated PowerMac 8600 LinuxPPC Asterisk 1.0.7 box
isn't on at the moment, is not more up to date, etc. is as much as I
use it, it's not worth paying for the electricity to run that 8600's
power supply 24/7, drain the UPS, etc.
I have a slightly less vintage G3 running OS X 24/7 and would love to
throw either that X100P card in it or plug an Apple USB Modem into it,
then I'd have reason to buy one of those wifi voip phones I've been
lusting after. It would be great fun to be sitting next to someone,
and call them via wifi voip, then have them wonder why their caller ID
says I'm calling from my home landline phone. For that matter I got
the impression that all kinds of neat caller ID tricks may be possible
in asterisk, and perhaps that will be the case in OpenPBX too.
Maybe one day the 10th generation ipod will have wifi voip capability
to standard bluetooth headsets and everyone will want to run their
own Mac OS X voip gateways. Unless Apple gets wise and makes it yet
another feature of dot mac in 2010. I just hope that iPod wifi voip
will be open right down to network QOS settings and not proprietary
when that happens.
Thanks,
Charles
ps. Maybe that iPod clickwheel can even be made to operate like a
retro rotary dial!
