only if you run many many calls at the same time with conversion  
between non-compressed voice codecs (ulaw/alaw) and highly compressed  
codecs (g729/speex), otherwise it is akin to the load you get when  
routing some ip traffic through your Mac.

But even if you do use codec transcoding, for a small number of  
concurrent calls it will be ok.
