Why do you need IAX trunking?  I am using IAX phones with my 1.4  
asterisk built on 10.4.9 without any problems.  This includes phones  
and call termination services, as well as other asterisk boxen.

IAX trunking is needed if you are going to be bundling a bunch of  
traffic to a particular service location or server.  It is a  
bandwidth saver.
